Long a staple on the Springfield music scene, Frank Trompeter continues his marvelous musical march accompanied by a mass of musicians and a bevy of bands. The configuration of the current combo features Trompeter (saxophones, vocals, percussion, sax synthesizer), Chris Miller (piano, organ), Chris Warren (bass), Dion Doss (drums) and A.J. Good (trumpet, flugelhorn). The singing saxophonist leads the basic jazz ensemble through “classic swing standards, mainstream, bebop, hard bop, originals and hybrid arrangements such as swing-plus-ska,” with dashing aplomb and daring ado. Besides numerous shows around town, the band hosts the Jazz Etc., Happy Hour, a steady Friday evening spot at Marly’s regularly featuring area jazz players and singers. On March 5 they open for Trompeter’s multi-media presentation, AV-JAZZaGANZA at Capital City Bar & Grill. From the original formation in 1993 through several personnel adjustments, hundreds of gigs from here to Japan and recordings including 2010’s Gnarly at Marly’s, Trompeter keeps the music coming and going.
