Brandon Carnes

Billed as an EP release-slash-going away party, the Brandon Carnes extravaganza this weekend is not your average concert. Son of local singer-musician Suzanne Carnes, the 20 year-old singer-songwriter is about to go itinerant and hit the mythical and mystical road by definitely “leaving Springfield indefinitely.” Harvest, the latest CD from this prolific young writer, contains eight songs related to his decision not to attend college, choosing instead to pursue learning along the way. Carnes calls it a “folk opera” written on the instinctive fly in a sudden burst of inspiration. To aid the effervescent performer in presenting the songs are fellow central Illinois musicians Max Beckman, Miles Parkhill, Danny Kerwin and Spencer Stokes. Other acts on the bill include Nathan Harmening and Our Lady. Directly after the show, Carnes intends to head for Florida by way of the East Coast with a goal of “making it to 25 states” in 2010. Good luck and happy travels.
