Imagine the surprise of a visitor on a recent weekday afternoon to the free-roam, fenced off area for dogs at Kinner’s On 97, a large doggie daycare facility just off State Route 97 in Pleasant Plains. A door opens, and suddenly dozens of dogs run to the front of the gate greeting the visitor, all seemingly in a happy, welcoming mood.
That’s the vibe one gets when stepping foot on the property co-owned by Amy and Drew DeRiemacker, along with Michael and Tricia Kinner. Along with regular daycare, Kinners offers dock diving and aquatics for dogs, with a giant pool inside that regularly hosts jumping and swimming competitions. ESPN was even here once to broadcast an event.
The current building for Kinners On 97 is a former Stone Seed operation, on land that has been owned by either a Kinner or their close family friends, the Stones, since 1835. In January 2022, the current facility was opened as a full-time doggy daycare business.
Dog owners can drop off their canines by 7-9 a.m. seven days a week and pick them back up between 4-6 p.m. It’s $27 for the first dog, $24 for each additional dog and other pricing packages are available for longer stays.
A dog that wants a supervised swim in the big pool will cost their owner $15 for a 20-minute session. A 30-minute, unassisted (no trainer) swim is $30.
“When we opened, we were one of only eight indoor (doggie aquatics) facilities in the country. There is a national competition each month, and people come from all over,” Amy DeRiemacker says.
Otherwise, she says, she loves the feeling of making dogs feel happy and loved when their owners are indisposed.
“We take social dogs and socialize them properly,” she says.
