Tom Irwin
Tom Irwin, a sixth-generation Sangamon County resident, has played his songs and music for nearly 40 years in the central Illinois area with occasional forays across the country. May music plays
Welcome to the merry month of May as we continue our raucous romp through the music scene of our fair city, to see what can be seen out there. And by the look of our listings, there’s plenty to partake in, so let’s get right on it, if we may. Thursday gives us a few […]
End of April music
Maybe it was because of the late Easter date or the fluctuations in weather from below freezing to 80 degrees, along with windy, rainy, sunny, cloudy and a few other “y’s” days as well, but April sure seemed to come and go in a hurry. Regardless of how the time flies by, let’s see what’s […]
April’s at it again
There’s something enticing about April, how the world refreshes and starts anew. Of course, T.S. Eliot famously called it the “cruellest month,” basically because of this enticement that T.S. felt only led to deeper disappointment. But let the poets take us where they dare, we’re talking about live music and the Springfield scene where April […]
April-izing music
Off we go into the wilds of our music scene in the midst of April as consistent warmer weather approaches with each passing day, bringing us closer to those outdoor shows we so adore. Next thing you know, the hot, dripping temps of summer will be here in full force. But for now, let’s go […]
April music awaits
Yeppers, it is officially April of 2025 and we’re right in the thick of the first weekend with plenty of live music to muster us up and out into the wonderful world of the Springfield music community. Let’s take a gander at what’s a-going on. Thursday is where we like to start our week and […]
March music moves
Here’s a happy “howdy” to all, as we move on through the last weekend of March in 2025, headed headlong toward April. And that means our version of “plein air” live music performances are in the foreseeable future, on the horizon and within our grasp as the warmer weather approaches on a consistent basis. Let’s […]

Green goes the music
Slante, my friends and welcome to the Celtic Nations edition of Now Playing. As some are wont to say, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day (or near to it anyway) so most of our venues are partying it up in one way or another, some with Irish-based music and most with regular-styled, local performers. […]
March to the music
Off we go into the madness or otherwise of the first full weekend of music in March for 2025. We’ve got a lot to cover, as usual, with a wide assortment of entertainment of the musical variety happening in our fair city, so let’s get to it. We are going to jump over Thursday this […]
Move into March music
Welcome, my friends, to another edition of Now Playing, where we dive into live music happening around the bustling metropolis of Springfield (Illinois, of course, not one of the other 67 populated places in the U.S. named Springfield, including some 34 municipalities). We have bars, clubs, restaurants, theaters, schools, universities, breweries, wine stores, gambling places, […]
Music warm up
How many “r’s” in your “brrrr” this week? Well, it’s too cold to count them so let’s just be thrilled and chilled to the bone that the upcoming weekend and forthcoming week will be much, much warmer. While we’re waiting to thaw out, let’s see what’s on the books for live music. Thursdays are still […]
