The Old State Capitol State Historic Site is offering families a new way to experience history this November with Civil War Saturdays. This week’s program will be presented by the Springfield Ladies Soldiers’ Aid Society, who will perform living history demonstrations of the work accomplished by women during the Civil War. Future Civil War Saturday presentations will be led by living history reenactor Dave Eisle as George Meade, commander of the Union Army of the Potomac, on Nov. 19 and reenactor Troy Gilmore as a Union soldier during a “Meet a Boy in Blue” presentation on Nov. 26. The Old State Capitol State Historic Site is overseen by the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency. For more information about the Old State Capitol, IHPA and various other programs, visit http://illinois.gov/ihpa.
