If you find yourself weary of all the go-to overhyped hits currently on local screens, cinematic alternatives are only as far away as a quick trip to Champaign.

Through the coming weekend, the Art Theater Co-op (126 W. Church St. in Champaign) will be screening a variety of intriguing, non-standard fare, including documentaries about killer whales in captivity and backup singers for superstar vocalists; a well-reviewed modern take on Hitchcock-style suspense; a highly-acclaimed Danish drama; a new adaptation of a Henry James novel featuring Julianne Moore; and a rare big-screen revival of Monty Python’s most irreverent satire.

Check out the trailers by clicking on the descriptions above and head to the Art – not only does it offer the most eclectic roster of films in the region, it is also the only cooperatively owned movie theater in the USA.
