storypoem # 22
it’s hard to write a poem a week
and keep them what is called a
poem what’s the definition of a
poem anyway john knoepfle our
local guru talks till he runs out of
steam sometimes just drizzles off
what I often do is tell stories or
embroider whatever it is I’m
thinking about here is a bit I
came across in poking through
family papers often a rich source
my dad at phantom lake Y camp
probably 14 in 1916 he hiked with
a group to sleep overnight in the
open spread out his blanket in
the dark they were in a pasture he
couldn’t get comfortable all night
seemed the roughest ground he’d
ever known when he picked up his
bedding in the morning he found
he’d lain all night on a pile of
dried horse apples I suppose a
moral is in order poems often end
with a deep thought this one
could be look before you (s)leap
