Cinephiles and horror fans itching for a road trip can rejoice this weekend as Champaign’s redoubtable Art Theater Co-op hosts a double feature of Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining (1980) along with the recent documentary Room 237 (see trailer below). The documentary attempts to explicate some of the many theories about what the heck the master director was getting at with the chilly and chilling Shining, based on a Stephen King novel. (King hated Kubrick’s adaptation so much that he eventually produced a miniseries version, which was more faithful to his original story but inferior in every other way.)

The films are showing Friday and Saturday, April 26 and 27 at the Art Theater Co-op, 126 W. Church St. in Champaign. On both niights Room 237 starts at 10 PM, with The Shining following at midnight. So gas up your car and go get tanked on the Red Rum.
