The area’s longest-running Christian music festival, Powerlight Fest, returns to the Illinois State Fair’s Lincoln Stage on Sunday, Aug. 23, for nine hours of worship, music and fun. The festival, which began at Knights Action Park in 1991, has been an Illinois State Fair mainstay. Festival founder Greg Cooper, the longtime co-host of the Powerlight Radio Show on 99.7 KISS FM, cites Greenville College’s student-run AgapeFest as providing the inspiration behind Powerlight Fest. The 2015 fest begins at noon with an hour of praise and worship, and the musical lineup features a hearty mix of local and national musicians. Performers include party-rockers Family Force 5, who roll into Springfield fresh off the Vans Warped Tour, Rapture Ruckus, Hawk Nelson, Momma’s Boy and more. All acts are fresh, energetic and offer a positive, uplifting message.
