There’s nothing like gliding across the ice on skates. This Friday night, the whole family can take to the Nelson Center ice for Holiday Ice Jamz, a holiday-themed night of skating and fun hosted by the Springfield Park District. The event will feature music, a hot chocolate bar and even an ugly sweater contest. In addition, Santa Claus will visit and be available for photos. Admission is $9 per person, or just $6 each with a donation of canned food or a new, unopened toy. Need to skate more? There’s still time to hit the temporary synthetic ice skating rink at Union Square Park from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and also on Dec. 30-31. Skate rental will be free for these final dates. Pick up a pair of skates at Union Station and check out the rink, a project of the Sangamon CEO program for high school students.
