n fifthstreet poem #14

ugly things can happen on
n fifth street my second daughter
in her teens was on the sidewalk
in front of our house she noticed
a pup start across the roadway
then a truck coming along swerved
deliberately to run it over the kids
in the schoolyard didn’t notice
but megan has never forgotten
