FUNDRAISERS AND GALAS | Girls on the Run event to feature founder
In 1996, Molly Barker founded Girls on the Run in Charlotte, North Carolina, with 13 girls. The group has expanded to every state and now served more than 2 million girls. The organization, in its own words, offers “evidence-based programs that inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities and confidently stand up for themselves and others.” Barker, who left the organization in 2013, will be the guest speaker April 6 at the local group’s fundraiser here in the capital city. Barker, a professional speaker and author, will speak about “exploring the freedom and joy that emerges when we can truly be ourselves.” The event will include comments from “Star Power Coaches,” food and complimentary drinks, a silent auction, raffle and the opportunity to connect with the Girls on the Run program and volunteers. Tickets, $75 per ticket or $125 for two, can be purchased through the organization’s website or at the door.
