This Friday marks the 25th anniversary of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The Springfield Fire Department is inviting the community to join firefighters, police officers and city staff members as they remember those who perished that day. To participate, arrive at your local neighborhood station by 7:30 a.m. According to the department, there will be brief remarks at 7:45 a.m. followed by the moment of silence at 7:46 a.m. That time, 7:46 a.m., is the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center. “Twenty five years later, we remember those we lost, honor those who answered the call, and make sure a new generation understands why we will never forget. We hope you will join us on September 11,” reads a statement on the department’s Facebook page. All 13 fire stations throughout the city of Springfield will be participating.
