Sing his glory
The Basuah Gospel Festival descends on Springfield to
praise the Lord with song and dance. Smokie Norful and Vanessa Bell
Armstrong, two of the biggest names in gospel, will come together to usher
in the Holy Spirit with powerful vocals. The label mates will perform their
hits, “He’s So Good to Me,” “Til’ Victory Is
Won,” “Um Good,” and other uplifting songs, all while
bringing attention to a worthy cause. The concert will be an opportunity
for the audience to help prevent the spread of AIDS/HIV. Testing for HIV
will be available. This will be an evening to enjoy life and music, and to
love your neighbor.

Royal drama
Take a break from politics and reality TV to watch
the majesty of King Arthur’s court unfold in the timeless tale of
loyalty, love and war. Timed to coincide with the presidential election
campaign, “Camelot” lifts the curtain on the politics and drama
that define the character of great leaders. King Arthur’s Round
Table, his love for Guinevere and the chivalry of Lancelot combine to
create a story that embraces the human struggle with love, brotherhood and
honor. The classic Lerner and Loewe musical teaches us that we all have a
role to play and, despite life’s setbacks, a king must always be
king.

Classical meditation
Music can tell a story and recreate the spirit of
almost any event. Daniel Bernard Roumain uses the strings of his violin and
a chamber orchestra to create a conversation between Abraham Lincoln and
Charles Darwin in “Darwin’s Meditation for The People of
Lincoln.” This is the world premiere of the composition. Roumain took
two men born on the same day in 1809, who believed in the power and genius
of the mind, to create a piece that explores their love affair with
humanity. Darwin, who introduced the world to the theory of evolution, and
Lincoln, who proved that, with freedom, humanity could evolve and become
great, inspired a dialogue that will inspire an audience.
