
Two great events
for National Poetry Month are unfortunately
both on Thursday, April 10.
- A Night of Poetry will be held at the Anne Lloyd Gallery of the Madden Arts Center, 125 N. Water in Decatur. From 6:30-8:30 p.m. there will be original readings from Springfield Poets and Writers President Hugh Moore; Benedictine University professors Amy Sayre Baptista and James Warner; Millikin University professors Carmella Braniger, Randy Brooks and Stephen Frech; two Richland Community College students; performance poetry; plus an original song performance by Michael Tasch and Olivia Fehrenbacher. There’s also an open mic, and free drinks and snacks.
- The 5th Annual Poetry Variety Show takes place in Jacksonville at On The Rox, 41 South Central Park. It starts at 6 p.m. Join The Imagine Foundation for an evening of all kinds of poetry. Dr. Joseph Kozma and Dr. Jose Arce will give traditional readings. Besides youth performances, other performances include Sherri Mitchell and Kathryn Hall, poetry and piano; Michael Viles, poetry and drums; Dr. Robert Seufert, poetry and guitar; Carole Boultinghouse Crim; and Brandon Coniglio and Cori Garthaus will perform poetry for two voices. Drink and food are available for purchase.
