Did you know that central Illinois is home to nearly 300 different kinds of insects? Some of them you’ve undoubtedly seen, like the glamorous firefly or the annoying mosquito. But some of them – like the scarab beetle – usually manage to stay out of sight unless you know where to find them. Join local entomologists Vern LaGesse and Jim Wiker for a field trip aimed at tracking down the incredible nocturnal insects of Springfield. Vern and Jim will set up equipment to attract, observe and identify all sorts of creatures along the trails at Adams Wildlife Sanctuary on July 25. Arrive around 8:30 p.m. to view some specimens on display. Dress for the weather and bring a flashlight.
