It’s a big weekend for the visual arts in Springfield, with openings at the DEMO Project tonight and The Pharmacy’s 10th group exhibition on Saturday.

The DEMO Project (732 North Fourth Street) is celebrating its one year anniversary with a unique and exciting exhibit by Carla Bengtson, head of the art department at University of Oregon. Her work is viscerally exciting and visually stunning and utilizes the DEMO Space as well or better than any other show over the past 12 months. Check out the video below, shot while Bengtson was setting up and then motor over to DEMO to see the finished work (and gorge yourself on the anniversary free beer and brats!)

Tomorrow night, The Pharmacy will be holding its final group exhibit at its original location (410 South Grand Avenue West) before packing up and heading downtown. Read all about the upstart collective’s scrappy history and big future plans in this week’s Illinois Times cover story.
