This fall, the community came together in a powerful demonstration of service and teamwork during United Way of Central Illinois’ fall Day of Action. A total of 211 volunteers, organized into 26 teams, rolled up their sleeves and made a difference in our community.

The day began with a kickoff luncheon sponsored by PNC. Volunteers gathered to celebrate the spirit of service and prepare for the busy afternoon ahead. The luncheon offered a chance to connect, share stores and set the tone for an afternoon focused on giving back. Thank you to PNC for making this volunteer luncheon possible.
Participants took part in 24 unique projects that brightened neighborhoods, supported local organizations and brought joy to local seniors. One group decorated for Halloween at the Old State Capitol while others were busy gardening, weeding and landscaping at schools and community gardens. Volunteers left a visible mark after an afternoon of sharing their time and talents.
Teams also assisted seniors in our community by completing some fall cleaning projects for residents at the Illinois Presbyterian Home and hanging Christmas lights for residents at Evertrue Concordia Village. Residents will be ready for the seasons to change thanks to these great volunteer groups.
Among the volunteers was Jenni Snow, whose enthusiasm and dedication were on full display throughout the day. Jenni, a longtime supporter of United Way, said, “I love seeing the energy everyone brings. It’s incredible to see what can be accomplished when a community comes together for a common goal.” Her leadership in gathering the INB team to volunteer highlights the impact that one committed individual can make.
The United Way Day of Action is proudly sponsored by Heartland Coca-Cola. Its support helps make this large-scale volunteer event possible each spring and fall. The partnership ensures volunteers have the resources and support needed to tackle projects that make a tangible difference in the community. Thank you, Heartland Coca-Cola, for supporting United Way and our volunteers.
“This Day of Action is a perfect example of how much we can accomplish when we work together,” said Karen Gedrose, director of community initiatives. “Volunteers not only support vital community projects, but they also inspire others to give back and stay connected.
The fall Day of Action reflects United Way’s ongoing mission to bring people together to strengthen our community. The dedication and energy of volunteers made a lasting impact that will be felt for months to come.
