America is a nation of immigrants. Wave after wave of immigrants built this nation – “the great melting pot” – and put their mark on it. The Citizens Club of Springfield is planning a two-part panel discussion about immigration in the U.S. as well as here in the capital city. “This program aims to highlight the history of immigration in the U.S., contributions made by diverse immigrant groups in Springfield as well as challenges faced. Subject matter experts will also share the impact of historical and current legislation on immigration and migrant flows,” says a club release. The first part, titled “History, Challenges and Contributions,” will feature panelists Driss El-Akrich, Isabel Skinner, Vidya Sundareshan and Xuna Hu. The second part, titled “Building a More Vibrant Springfield,” will feature panelists Elizabeth Brago Boateng, Brooke Depenbusch, Yves Doumen and Veronica Espina. David Steward will moderate both events. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP and learn more by visiting the event’s Facebook page.
