Bruce Rushton has been terminated from his position as staff writer for Illinois Times due to his behavior and public comments at a June 16 press conference outside the Sangamon County jail. “We do not condone such behavior,” said Fletcher Farrar, editor and owner of the newspaper. “That’s not who we are. Reporters are held to a high standard.”

Farrar said the decision to terminate was not taken lightly, but is necessary. He will contact press conference organizers to apologize for the comments and disruption. Rushton has been employed at Illinois Times for 10 years.

Michelle Ownbey is the publisher of Illinois Times and Springfield Business Journal.

  1. That’s all you have to offer on Bruce?! How disappointing. No mention of his continuing alcohol abuse issues. Why do you think he was canned in St. Louis and at the SJ-R? Do a cursory search on the Sangamon County court website. And I was especially disappointed that there were no “cartoons” from you guys poking fun at his “apparent “ drunken outburst at the press conference.

And I love how the SJ-R didn’t print a word about your booze fueled public outburst.

Hey Bruce, I read your quote that was part of a local radio station’s vague story on your ass being canned. Stop whining. Be a man and take responsibility for your issues and your actions. “All I have ever wanted to do was journalism, and I hope I get the chance to do it again.” Wah, wah, 😩.

Next stop, if you’re lucky, The Ashland Weekly? Or you could always start a home blog. Ask Calvin Christian for a few pointers. Lol.

Rushton, you’re a hypocritical f$&k! Karma (Prarabdha) in particular is a bitch, ain’t it?!! 😂😂😂😂😂
