Grand Illusions: Fantastic Worlds on Film is the
theme of the 2025 Turner Classic Movies Film Festival.  To be held from April 24-27, 2025, at various
venues along Hollywood Boulevard, this annual gathering of film buffs and
aficionados features an eclectic roster of 80 films, from anime to westerns.  As always, guests will abound at numerous
screenings, directors and stars of various films in attendance to introduce and
give background on their work.

The festival kicks off on the evening of the 24th with a screening of The Empire Strikes Back, at the historic TCL Chinese
Theater. Long considered the best of the Star Wars films, creator George
Lucas will be in attendance to introduce the sequel.

In keeping with the theme, a number of science fiction
classics will be shown. They include 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Back
to the Future
(1985), Blade Runner (1982), Earth vs. the Flying
Saucers
(1956), Fantastic Voyage (1966), The Incredible Shrinking
Man
(1957), Superman: The Movie (1978) and The Time Machine (1960).

Of course, fantastic worlds are not the exclusive preview of
the science fiction genre. As such, the festival programmers have thought
outside the box by including other movies that feature dynamic alternate
realms.  Among those movies are All
That Jazz
(1979), Brigadoon (1954), Cinderella (1950), The
Enchanted Cottage
(1945), Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975), The
Private Life of Henry VIII
(1933), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Spirited Away (2001), Wild at Heart (1990) and The Wiz (1978).

Naturally, it wouldn’t be the TCM film festival if there
weren’t a fair share of classics from yesteryear on the roster. Among them are All
This, and Heaven Too
(1940), Animal Crackers (1930), Apocalypse
Now
(1979), Ben-Hur (1959), Bringing Up Baby (1938), Carefree
(1939), Daisy Kenyon (1947), The Freshman (1925), Gunfight
at the O.K. Corral
(1957), Hud (1963), The Lady Eve (1941), Mildred
Pierce
(1945), Morocco (1930), Oklahoma (1955), Sunset
Boulevard (
1950), Suspicion (1941) and The Talk of the Town (1942).

Other highlights include an appearance by Michelle Pfeiffer,
who will participate in a hand and footprint ceremony before a screening of The
Fabulous Baker Boys
(1989), a screening of Misery (1990) with Kathy
Bates and Rob Reiner in attendance, actor James Cromwell introducing Babe (1995), Kyle MacLachlan sharing his memories of David Lynch before a showing of
Blue Velvet (1986) and director Michael Mann will be on hand to
introduce Heat (1995) to commemorate its 30th anniversary..

As with past festivals, this is a golden opportunity to
revisit your cinematic favorites as well as discover previously unseen gems.
