You never know who might drop in on Springfield, Ill. Thanks to Obama and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum, Springfield has slowly become a name on the tip of America’s tongue, and a small-city or large-town destination for the curious.
Springfield Poets and Writers board member Liz Huck was
listening to WUIS radio this morning and heard that they are featuring poet Lily
Myers today on the program “Here and Now.“
Why is that cool and what does it have to do with folks dropping in on Springfield?
Well, Myer’s poem sounded familiar to Huck.
So Huck looked her up on the Internet. And, lo and behold, Myers was in Springfield a couple months ago and read at Springfield Poets and Writers’ Open Mic at Robbie’s. That
goes to prove you never know who might drop in at open mic night.
“Here and Now” will be broadcast in about a half hour, running from 1-3 p.m. Myers poem, “Shrinking
Women” has gone viral with over 3 million hits since being recorded at the semi-finals
of the Collegiate National poetry slam in New
York City in 2013.
The next Springfield Poets and Writers Open Mic is Jan. 15 from 6-8 p.m. Open mics are each third Wednesday of the month.
