Chatham’s big summer event featuring that delicious, golden food staple is almost here. Yes, we’re talking about none other than the long-running, annual Sweet Corn Festival by the Chatham Jaycees. Things start at 5 p.m. Friday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, Little Miss Sweet Corn pageant, games for children, more than 70 vendors and, of course, loads of sweet corn. Gabe Marshall and his Nashville Band and Highway 615 provide the musical entertainment before the event closes for the evening at 11:30 p.m. No worries, though. A full day of events begins at 7:30 a.m. Saturday with the Sweet Corn Festival 5K. Activities include demonstrations, a volleyball tournament, ancient athletics competition and the famous Cow Chip Throw at 2 p.m. Musical entertainment to be provided by The Lovelorn, Fun DMC and UNCHAiNED before the event ends at 11:30 p.m. For a complete schedule, visit chathamjaycees.net.
