Springfield Lutheran High School has received a $6 million donation to kick start its capital campaign for a new, permanent campus. The donation, from a charitable trust at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chatham, will bring “tremendous momentum to our building initiative,” according to an announcement from principal Zach Klug and board chair George Perkins.
Mine subsidence forced Lutheran High to close its west-side Springfield campus in 2022, which has since been demolished. Since then, the school has rented space at Springfield First Church of the Nazarene, 5200 S. Sixth St. Frontage Road East.
In early 2024, the school announced plan to purchase 23 acres of land owned by Cherry Hills Church and rebuild near the northeast corner of Chatham and Woodside roads. The announcement said “…this $6 million gift turns our shared vision for a state-of-the-art permanent campus into a reality.”
