Doug Waterman arrived in Illinois on Sunday, crossing
the old Chain of Rocks Bridge, and made his way to Springfield by late
Monday, day 27 of his California-to-Chicago bicycling trek along old Route
66. A retired 66-year-old retired teacher from Davis, Calif., Waterman is
making the trip, in part, to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity. His
quest was outlined in a story in the April 28 edition of Illinois Times. He plans to return to
Springfield this week to visit his son and daughter-in-law.
