• Just get out of the way there, Junior. Blues Power is all fired
up, with four of central Illinois’ finest muzeekans goosing the throttle, chomping
at the bit, and turning up the heat. Frank Herrin, Jerry Turley, Blair Fernandez,
and Bad Bill Robinson are squeezing the juice from the electric blues at 8:30
p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at the P.J. Lounge in Dawson.

• The Doc Hollow & Friends Traveling Acoustic Review revives
an entertainment practice dating to the time of vaudeville, when a pack of musicians
would travel together, performing shows within the show. Doc Hollow hosts as
players perform a few songs, then turn the stage over to the next entertainer.
Pretty neat, huh? This Saturday’s featured participants in the Review at the
Cellar at Andiamo! (204 S. Sixth St., 217-523-3262) are as follows, in no particular
order: Jill Manning, Ric Mari with Juanita and Ralph Noe, Southside Johnny,
Peine & Stein, Paul Mona, and Steve Younker. The show starts at 8 p.m.

• It’s time for just another ordinary absolutely stellar Cabin
Concert with two of the finest names in bluegrass music today. Jim Hurst and
Missy Raines — both recipients of best-of awards from the International Bluegrass
Music Association — drop by the house in rural Pleasant Plains for Saturday-night
and Sunday-afternoon shows. All seats are reserved, and shows do sell out. Call

• Not heralded as a major player in the college-music circles,
our very own University of Illinois at Springfield has nonetheless developed
a terrific music program thanks to volunteer musicians, community support, and
a dedicated staff. Enjoy the fruits of their labors of love at 7:30 p.m. Friday,
Nov. 19, during the UIS Fall Music Showcase. The concert features the UIS Band,
UIS Chorus, UIS Chamber Ensemble, andUIS World Percussion Ensemble in
the Studio Theatre of the Public Affairs Center. The $5 cover benefits the UIS

• “If you like jammin’, too,” wiggle your way to the top o’ the
mighty Hiltonian at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, for Elisha Israel and AZ-One.
Mr. Israel is one fine propagator of reggae music, and those of you with a hankering
for the island rhythms would do well to pay a visit to E.I. and AZ-One (that’s
“as-won” — do you get it, warmongers?).
