Journal-Register sports editor Todd Adams was laid off last Friday in what one source says was
an economic move.
Adams’
departure came two days after SJ-R newsroom employees, plus editorial employees
at the Peoria Journal Register and Rockford Register Star, were offered
buyouts. Workers have until today to sign up for buyouts.
Adams
joined the paper in January, 2017. Neither he nor Angie Muhs, SJ-R editor,
could be reached for immediate comment.

Media, corporate owner of the three papers, has told workers that those who
sign up for buyouts will be told by the end of the workday on Wednesday whether
the company will allow them to leave with severance packages. In the case of the
SJ-R, a collective bargaining agreement with newsroom employees would allow one
week’s pay for every year’s service, with a maximum payout of 15 weeks of pay.
