Formed in Dublin in November 1962, six-time Grammy Award-winners The Chieftains are widely recognized for their ability to transcend musical and generational boundaries as they blend traditional Irish music with more modern sounds. The Chieftains are nearly synonymous with Irish music, and are recognized internationally as of one Ireland’s most respected and revered musical groups. The Chieftains, whose sound is built almost entirely on instrumentals and uilleann pipes, celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2012. They commemorated the occasion with their Voice of Ages album, which features collaborations with some of today’s most talented international artists, including Bon Iver, The Decemberists and Paolo Nutini. The Chieftains perform at Sangamon Auditorium on Tuesday, Mar. 1 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available online at http://sangamonauditorium.org, or by calling the Sangamon Auditorium box office at 206-6160.
