Fred Edmonds was well-known throughout Springfield and the central Illinois area as a performing musician and also as a loving family man and friend. He was a lifelong resident of Springfield, graduating from Southeast High School and working for 33 years at Honeywell Hobbs. Quiet and reserved by nature, Fred came alive when the drumsticks were in his hands. He was a founding member of Starry Eye, an area rock group active from the late 1970s until the early ’90s. More recently he was a member of the band Off the Wall, continuing to entertain people at area bars and events such as festivals. After retiring from Hobbs, Fred worked as a stagehand for Audio Technical Services, and he was a member of IATSE union Local 138. Fred will be remembered throughout our community for the love he shared with many family members and friends, who equally cared for him and will therefore miss his presence in their lives, whether it be as a proud grandfather or rocking steady at the drum set.
