Finally, a reason to break out your saris and kurtas – for a good cause, no less. The Asian Indian Women’s Organization of Springfield is hosting its seventh biennial India Night. AIWO is a local nonprofit group that works to improve the community, and they’re eager to share their culture with Springfield. It’s a chance to fill up on authentic Indian food and dress up in colorful clothes while checking out the live and silent auctions for Indian prizes like bedspreads, jewelry and shawls. Sangamon County Circuit Clerk Tony Libri will be on hand to run the live auction and rub elbows with the crowd. While you’re there, go a little wild and get a henna tattoo to show off your style. Don’t worry; they’re temporary! At $50 a ticket, the fundraiser benefits Ronald McDonald House Charities of Springfield, which provides a temporary home environment for families of chronically-sick children in Springfield’s hospitals. To get tickets, check out www.rmhcspringfield.org or contact India Night organizer Vasanta Mushunuri at 401-349-0478 or vmushunuri@gmail.com.
