Jim “Gunner” Edwin Fults, 80, of Jacksonville, Illinois, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, at The Grove Health and Rehab Center in Jacksonville. He was born on Aug. 8, 1945, to William and Mary (nèe Strebel) in Springfield, Illinois.
Jim worked for Springfield Pepsi-Cola Distribution in Springfield for over 20 years. He also worked for ACE Hardware in Springfield for over 10 years and was known as the Hot Dog Man for grilling and serving hot dogs at lunchtime. He owned and operated Gunner’s Goodies, selling ice cream from a trailer at different events. He was an avid Hot Wheels toy collector. He enjoyed gardening, traveling and playing puzzle games on his computer that he taught himself how to use. Most of all, he enjoyed socializing with friends and listening to all genres of music.
Jim is survived by his best friend and companion for over 50 years, Vickii Hart, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William and Kenneth Fults.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, Dec. 11, 2025, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Petersburg, Illinois, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. A funeral mass will follow beginning at 12 p.m. with Fr. Varghese Puthussery officiating. Burial will follow mass at Farmers Point Cemetery near Tallula, Illinois.
