Norma Lee “Sally” Young, 96, of Pawnee, Illinois, passed away on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at her home in Pawnee, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was born July 29, 1929, in Pawnee, the daughter of Jerry and Lillie B. Harrier Brawner. She married George T. Young on June 30, 1951, at Pawnee United Methodist Church in Pawnee. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George, in 2013; her daughter, Debra Perschbacher; her daughter-in-law, Connie Young; her brother, John Brawner (Uncle Jock); and her sister, Juanita (Bridge) Drone.
Sally graduated from Pawnee High School in 1947. She was a member of Pawnee United Methodist Church and the Good Samaritans Camping Club. She was a homemaker but had previously worked at Hummer Manufacturing Co., Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Co. and Famous-Barr in Springfield.
Sally loved her family, friends and classmates, and she had a great sense of humor. She also loved music and was a Willie Nelson fan.
Sally is survived by two sons, Robert T. Young and Ronald D. (wife, Sherry) Young, of Pawnee; one daughter, Christine D. (husband, Bob) Sherrock of Taylorville; eight grandchildren, Amanda (husband, Mike) Polistina, Lindsey Young, Alicia Smith, Evan Perschbacher, Adam (wife, Virginia) Perschbacher, Blake (wife, Abby) Young, Bailey (Hunter) Hamilton and Brennen (Ally) Young; 10 great-grandchildren, Adriana, Mason, Avery, Stone, Torsten, Layton, Ryder, Maren, Henley and Kennedy; one son-in-law, Gregory Perschbacher, of Pawnee; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sally’s family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2025, at Curry Funeral Home in Pawnee, with Pastor Lindsey Young officiating. Burial will follow at Horse Creek Cemetery in Pawnee.
