More than 40% of engagements in the U.S. occur between Thanksgiving and Valentine’s Day, so this is the time of year many couples are starting to plan their weddings. We talked to area business owners involved in the wedding industry to find out the latest trends. An increasing number of people are looking beyond traditional diamond engagement rings and taking the environment and ethics into consideration (p. 13). Wedding flowers are moving away from symmetrical arrangements in favor of garden-style bouquets that have more of an unstructured look, and couples are using hanging florals, potted plants and even container gardens to decorate for the reception (p.12). And think beyond a traditional white wedding cake – bold jewel tones, metallic cakes and hand painted cakes are all popular these days (p.15).
