Marian was a dancer.

She understood time, space, force, shape, dynamics. She breathed music – rhythm, melody, and tempo.

Marian began her dance training at a young age, studying and performing with some of the giants of dance of her time as well as many stars of musical theater.

After moving to Springfield in 1963 with husband, Ron, and their young children, Marian forged powerful connections with many Springfield area artists and arts educators. She taught ballet at the YWCA, choreographed for local ballet groups and the Muni and taught in the artist-in-the-schools program.

In her later years, Marian established herself as a dynamic presence in the Springfield theater scene. To every collaboration, she brought her dancer’s sensibility and training, with an instinctive kinesthetic awareness that enlivened and informed every project. To her theater colleagues and audiences, she was known as a “force of nature.”

Marian took great pleasure in her family. At the time of her death, she and Ron had been married for 66 years. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.

For those who loved her, the loss of one so vibrantly alive, is keenly felt.

“Though the voice is quiet, the spirit echoes still.”

Daughter Carrie Levin
