This week’s cover story by Dean Olsen, about what federal Medicaid cuts mean for the Springfield area, couldn’t be more timely. That’s because the cuts, enacted by Congress and signed into law earlier this year, have become the focus of the federal government shutdown, which began Oct. 1. Democrats say the cuts are too deep and need to be addressed before there is any budget deal to resolve the shutdown. Republicans say they are willing to compromise on Medicaid cuts, but only after the shutdown is resolved. When the Medicaid cuts were enacted, few of us realized what would be the devastating local impact on health and the health care system. Now we know. After reading Olsen’s reporting, decide whether Congress should address the issue now, or simply agree to take care of it later.

  1. Those “cuts” would end the pandemic era, you know the pandemic that’s been over for three years, subsidies that covered people making 400% above the poverty rate. The reporter failed to mention that.

  2. Sir, haven’t you heard? You’re supposed to lie and blame the shutdown on republicans.

By the way, we are waiting anxiously for you to opine on the Charlie Kirk assasination. Four days after the 2nd failed assasination on Trump, you said Trump should stay off the golf course if he doesn’t want to be killed. Please tell us, what could have Charlie done to avoid being shot in the neck by the gay furry with a transgender boyfriend?
