Join Sangamon Valley Sierra Club, Illinois Stewardship Alliance, Prairie Rivers Network and King Corn movie producers Ian Cheney and Curt Ellis who traded their farming combine for a canoe to produce another 30-minute sequel movie entitled Big River. Big River documents how pollution from heartland agriculture is blamed for herbicide and storm water runoff causing cancer clusters along streams and the loss of half of Iowa’s topsoil affecting streams and rivers all the way to the Gulf of Mexico and spawning a hypoxic “dead zone” in our ocean. Dr. Stacy James of Prairie Rivers Network will also give a short presentation specific to Illinois after the viewing of the film. The Sierra Club also hosts a book reading Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. with award-winning journalist and cultural historian Jeff Biggers at City Nights on Dirksen Parkway.
