Tribute to my grandfather, written about 1940Â
by several members of the Turtle 4-H club. Â
“There is a man in our community
who has given his time and talents rare;Â
and taxed his strength and ingenuity for
boys and girls clubs everywhere. BecauseÂ
of him, we did all sorts of things. We hoedÂ
the corn, picked potato bugs so big. We did
some sewing and baking fit for kings, and we
scrubbed our little calves and pigs. He’s inspiredÂ
us to do so very well that fame we’ve brought
to Turtle town; or at least the record of our clubÂ
do tell. We’ve won 4-H honor and renown. And
so in appreciation of all you’ve done, we present
this little token for though you’re not our director
now, we still love and honor you, Mr. Dougan.
This is our wish and future plan; that your same
interests will still be shown. That you’ll attend ourÂ
meetings whenever you can, till we’ve all to men
and women grown.”
