For those looking to get the most out of their weekend, brunch is undoubtedly the best place to start. Whether you’re looking for a casual bite before heading off to the farmers market or a full-on mimosa soiree, Springfield has a variety of brunch options from which to choose. Here are a few of our favorites:
Curate, 2930 Plaza Drive
Sunday Funday at Curate delivers a daytime version of the upscale experience for which this posh, west-side location has become known. The menu is divided into two sections, “Early Risers” and “After Nooners,” which nicely straddles the breakfast-lunch divide. Classic brunch dishes get a luxe makeover such as the lobster benedict with asparagus and hollandaise sauce as well as blackened shrimp over creamy parmesan polenta.
Those looking for options beyond breakfast will enjoy dishes such as crispy duck wings, truffle fries with bacon aioli and a selection of crispy flatbreads. Igloos are available during the colder months, opening up to patio seating when the weather warms.
Incredibly Delicious, 925 S. Seventh St.
Incredibly Delicious has been bringing a little bit of France to Springfield for nearly 30 years. In addition to the handcrafted pastries, quiche croissant breakfast sandwiches and lunch items available every week Tuesday through Friday, chef and owner Patrick Groth offers a rotating brunch menu on Saturdays which follows a similar format each weekend, but is updated weekly to reflect the changing seasons.
Customer favorites include the decadent stuffed French toast, featuring different fillings each week, as well as a hearty breakfast scramble and vibrant avocado toast. Its famous “cruffins” are available on Saturdays only and often sell out quickly. Composed of flaky croissant dough which is made by hand with layers of organic butter from New Zealand, the cruffins are baked in a giant muffin tin before being filled with a duet of ever-changing seasonal flavors. Orders are taken at the counter and guests can choose a table inside the historic Victorian building or find seating in the stunning garden.
Luminary Kitchen & Provisions, 3121 Hedley Road
Chefs Aurora and Jordan Coffey offer a prix fixe three-course brunch on Sundays showcasing a range of dishes including impossibly light beignets and a signature LKP burger. The menu changes weekly so guests are encouraged to call the restaurant or check Luminary’s Facebook page for the current offerings.
Recent menu items include breakfast risotto topped with savory bacon jam and “The Biggie,” featuring eggs and sausage patties on fresh brioche with homemade aioli, American cheese and hashbrowns. Menu items can also be ordered a la carte. In addition to the regular beverage selection, including handcrafted cocktails and a dynamic wine list, Luminary offers Mimosas made with your choice of fresh juices during brunch service.
Taqueria El Dorado, 1386 Toronto Road
This bustling family-owned restaurant on Springfield’s south side can be counted on for its selection of reliable Mexican favorites including chilaquiles, breakfast burritos and tacos, plus so much more. In addition to diner favorites like egg skillets, waffles and biscuits with gravy, El Dorado offers decadent and fun dishes such as churros French toast donned with fruit and whipped cream. Eggs benedict can be ordered a variety of ways with variations including chorizo and al pastor, drizzled in rich, house-made hollandaise sauce.
Those in search of a little whimsy can order the brunch tower for two. The three-tiered server comes laden with dollar pancakes, eggs, potatoes, fruit and more. For the kids, the funny face pancake is a delightful creation that comes cleverly decorated with fruit and whipped cream. The restaurant offers a full bar and an excellent selection of brunch cocktails, with covered outdoor seating on a generously sized patio to enjoy the warmer days.
