They drained and cleaned the Y pool because
a little kid pooped in it. Well, OK. But I think
of our sweet little Vermont lake filled with fish
that poop, turtles, ducks, geese, loons, frogs,
clams, snails, beavers, and all manner of other
critters including little kids at the public beach.
Should we drain our lake daily? It would refill
by two little streams coming down from the hills
where cattle graze, also foxes, weasels, rabbits,
and once I saw a moose. Some thirty years ago
I gave a speech on children’s books, titled, They
Never Dig a Latrine. Now there’s a book for
toddlers called Everybody Poops. But it’s not
allowed, apparently, in the YMCA pool!
