Next to Normal is a musical drama that chronicles how a suburban family copes with the unpredictability of a mother’s worsening bipolar disorder. Written by Brian Yorkey, the play won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for drama and three 2009 Tony Awards. It takes audiences into the minds and hearts of each character during the crisis, presenting the family’s story with love, sympathy and heart. “I believe people will resonate with the show’s profound exploration of mental health issues and the toll it takes on families,” said show producer Jennifer Gronewald. Gronewald said SIU Behavioral Health will have a display table at the Hoogland of mental health resources. The show, presented by Springfield Theatre Centre and the Lilac Fund, is directed by LaDonna Wilson and Sean Robb. Tickets are $22. Contact the Hoogland Center box office.
