Celebrate the 216th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, Springfield’s favorite son, with several events this weekend at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site. The fun starts at noon Saturday as rangers host a trivia game at the visitor center with questions all about the 16th president, who was born on Feb. 12, 1809. Later, at 2 p.m., actors Randy Duncan and Pam Brown will portray Abe and Mary Lincoln in A Springfield Farewell, a play focusing on Lincoln’s Feb. 11, 1861, farewell address in Springfield. The pair will repeat the performance at 3 p.m. Sunday. Over the weekend, three Lincoln authors will sign books at the visitor center bookstore. Marla Harms Judge will sign her book, Mrs. Lincoln’s Birthday Surprise, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. From 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Jonathan White will sign the books My Day with Abe Lincoln and A Great and Good Man. Jan Jacobi will sign his book, Lincoln and Douglas, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. He’ll also give a presentation at 11 a.m. To top it all off, Lincoln-themed crafts will be available at the visitor center. All of the events are free.
