HOLIDAY HAPPENINGS | Conns to lead 42nd annual parade
This weekend, thousands of green-clad revelers are expected to turn out for this popular event to celebrate everything Irish. Court and Karen Conn are the grand marshals. This year’s theme is “A Bridge Across the Centuries.” The parade starts at Jefferson and Sixth streets, heads west to Fifth Street, south on Fifth to Capitol Avenue where it turns east, turns north on Sixth to the Reviewing Stand (family-friendly area) then to Washington heading east back to the beginning at the Horace Mann parking lot. Proceeds from the parade, after minimal expenses, have contributed more than $40,000 to local charities in the past five years. Last year, a total of $10,000 was donated to St. John’s Breadline and Rutledge Youth Foundation.
