Head downtown on New Year’s Eve for this annual family-friendly event at three iconic locations. This year’s event features children’s activities at the ALPLM and Hoogland Center, a special around-the-world midnight countdown with confetti cannons at the ALPLM, ice skating at Union Square Park and a dazzling fireworks spectacular. A full schedule of activities starts at the ALPLM after a noon ribbon-cutting ceremony. Several musical acts also are scheduled at the Hoogland. In its 39th year, this event is the longest-running First Night event west of the Alleghenies. Guests will receive schedules and maps upon arrival. Fireworks take place at Fourth Street and Capitol Avenue at 8 p.m. Tickets for ages 16 and older are $25 while those 15 and younger are free. Get tickets at hcfta.org.
