Abraham Lincoln Long Nine Museum Open House
Fri., Feb. 13, 1-5 p.m.
200 S. Main St., Athens
Celebrate Abraham Lincoln’s 217th birthday and his enduring legacy by attending this open house at the Abraham Lincoln Long Nine Museum. The museum is located inside the historic Col. Matthew Rogers Building. It’s where Lincoln and his fellow “Long Nine” state legislators were honored in a banquet on Aug. 3, 1837, after helping pass a bill to move the state capital from Vandalia to Springfield. Exhibits include dioramas depicting Lincoln’s association with Rogers’ family and other county residents, a biography room with information about each of the “Long Nine” legislators and re-created banquet area. The museum will open June 2 for tours from 1-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays through Aug. 30.
