This Saturday the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum is inviting the public to join it for a celebration. The ALPLM will not only mark Lincoln’s birthday, but also celebrate recently earning national accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums. “Qualifying involves months or even years of internal preparation and then evaluation by the alliance,” said the ALPLM in a release, which noted only 3.2% of museums are accredited by the group. To celebrate, there will be a short ceremony in the museum plaza at 2 p.m. featuring cake and air cannons firing streamers. The activities begin at 10 a.m. with the Literacy Jam. Among other events, it features cast members from the musicals Finding Nemo and Winnie the Pooh reading stories and singing songs and magician Richard Landry. Also, Tater Tots Rock will play its brand of rock ‘n’ roll for children. Visitors can bring books to donate to Compass for Kids. Admission is free all day as well as Monday, Feb. 12 – Lincoln’s actual birthday.
