Democrats now have a solid majority in the U.S. Senate, and a lock on both houses in the Illinois General Assembly. What are they going to use their political power for? It’s time for a full-scale debate on a ban on assault-style weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines, the kind that have been used in multiple mass shootings. A high-powered rifle was used in the mass shooting at the Highland Park Fourth of July parade last summer; it left seven people dead and dozens wounded. Rep. Bob Morgan, D-Deerfield, whose district includes Highland Park, introduced ban legislation last week. Seven states already have some form of ban, and President Joe Biden has called for a federal ban. “Gun violence is destroying families and communities from East St. Louis to Highland Park to Chicago, and this moment demands urgency,” Rep. Morgan said. “It is time that we had the political courage to admit that guns are a problem and that we can do something about it.” –Fletcher Farrar, editor

This is from the article you cross referenced colon: The main problem isn’t what the guns look like – it’s who is behind the trigger.
That’s a problem that won’t be solved by passing another law in Springfield. It can only be solved with good parenting.
