International Women’s Day has been celebrated since March 8, 1913. Hundreds of people showed up at the Illinois State Capitol on Saturday for International Women’s Day – Unite & Resist in Springfield to speak out for women’s rights and protest actions by President Donald Trump and Elon Musk. Speakers included Martin Woulfe (Abraham Lincoln Unitarian Universalist Congregation), Shatriya Smith (Garvey Tubman Cultural Arts and Research Center), State Sen. Doris Turner, U.S. Sen Dick Durbin, Zach Long (Planned Parenthood), Ward 6 Ald. Jennifer Notariano and co-organizers of the event Erin Van Brooker and Joshua Leingang.
“Those that stay silent are first to be taken advantage of,” said Smith. Senator Turner challenged the crowd to “broaden our collective to amplify our voices.” Notariano emphasized the importance of being engaged and contacting elected officials at all levels of government. “Make them do their job,” she said. “Protest and applaud in equal measure.” Senator Durbin cited polls identifying the three most unpopular actions by the Trump Administration: 1) Pardoning Jan. 6 rioters, 2) Cutting Medicaid and 3) Providing tax breaks to the wealthy.
Following the rally the crowd marched to the Old State Capitol, Governor’s Mansion and returned to the State Capitol chanting, “This is what democracy looks like.” As they walked peacefully on the sidewalks, many people in cars on the streets honked their horns in support.
Signs expressed support for women’s rights, reproductive rights, Ukraine, transgender people, education, science, immigrants, social security, Medicaid and the disabled. Among the many anti-Trump and anti-Musk signs were messages of positivity: “Empowered women empower our world,” “Be kind, polite, honest, love our earth” and “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.”

It’s the menopause militia!
It’s amazing that a group of women can be so old yet still be woke. You would think they would have learned something after being alive so long.
I guess they are all still traumatized from the abortions they had in the 1970s.
Burger Addict, you obviously were not there, or you would know that while there were a number of strong, forceful older women in attendance, there were also many, many younger women who also care about humanity. There were a surprising number of men, also, men who, unlike you, are secure enough in their masculinity to support women instead of trying to belittle them. We were at the rally to express our demands for a free country that allows all of us to live our lives as we see fit, not under the control of clueless men who try to tell us what to do. Possibly you should confine yourself to sharing your opinions with the immature incels who are your kindred spirits.
Hi Jeanie Marsh,
You wrote:

The men you referred to are not “secure in their masculinity”. They have no masculinity. If they had masculinity, they wouldn’t show up to stand in a crowd of women who hate them. Any man who attends this type of gathering is not masculine. They are feminine.
What percentage of the menopause militia do you think has had an abortion? 80%? 95%?
Dear Burger,
LOL – Your response just proved me right. Thank you.
Fragile *little* MAGA men have zero clue regarding masculinity.
Clues: Big loud trucks, Corvettes
Only emotion is anger
Zero critical thinking
Tiny *hands*
Uneducated
Hi Jeanie Marsh,
I’m not trying to “prove you wrong” or convince you of anything. It’s actually impossible to convince a person of something when they live in an inverted reality. I just try to speak the truth and then watch the woke recoil in disgust, as they always do when they hear the truth.
The menopause militia clearly HATES men and HATES masculinity. That’s why the menopause militia refer to masculinity as “toxic”. Therefore, any man who finds himself in this crowd can’t possibly be masculine. They can only be feminine.
I will ask again, because I’m curious about your answer to this question:
In your estimation, what percentage of the menopause militia has had an abortion?
I’m assuming the number must be very close to 100%, because it’s the only explanation for why a group of 70 year old women frequently gather together to complain in public about abortion laws. Abortion no longer applies to them because they can’t get pregnant. So why the complaining? Why the fervor?
Because they desperately want validation for what they have done which they know in their heart was deeply wrong. If they can convince other people that it was okay, maybe they will convince themselves.
But that will never happen. I can’t imagine how a woman could ever escape the trauma of snuffing out her own child in the womb.
The ONLY chance she has to get past the trauma is to admit to herself that what she did was wrong and to beg God for forgiveness.
