Something new and lively, happening in cities and towns around the world, starts up in Springfield Aug. 5. Locally coordinated PechaKucha Night will consist of nine creative Springfieldians each giving a six minute and 40 second (20 slides, 20 seconds each) presentation. Pecha Kucha (pronounced pe CHAK cha and based on the sound of chit chat in Japanese) was a presentation format two architects devised in Japan in 2003. You won’t want to miss this informal and fun gathering featuring: David Cain – Sensory Continuum; Melanie Dineen – CAKE!; Bruce Ferry – Why it Looks That Way; Tom Schwartz – Abraham Lincoln: From Silver Screen to Flat Screen; Amy Walters – Plan Bee: Why Bees Matter; Frank Trompeter – It’s Just a Thing, Tanya Jean, the Hipster Prose of Kurt Elling; Mike Jackson – Old is the New Green Building; Michael Mayosky – ARTPRIZE 2010; and Lisa Kasa – What a Sweet Job. Doors for the event open at 6:20 p.m. Seating is limited. For more information visit pecha-kucha.org.
