Theatre in the Park at Lincoln’s New Salem State Historic Site starts its summer season with the comedy Father of the Bride by Caroline Francke. Set in the early 1950s, the play is about a father coping with his daughter’s upcoming wedding. Directed by Leona Edwards, the production boasts a cast of 16 locals. A free pre-show begins at 7 p.m. with Edwards and Scott Smith, piano composer (June 1); Dennis Darling, composer/singer (June 2); Capital City Men’s Chorus (June 3); Linda Schneider as Patsy Cline (June 7); Kayla Primm, piano/singer (June 8); Scott Smith, piano composer (June 9). Phone to reserve tickets or pick up 12-5 p.m. daily at the box office in the Visitor’s Center, which opens 5 p.m. on performance nights. Also, bring at least two non-perishable food items for the Menard County Food Bank, and receive a coupon for a free popcorn at the show.
