11th Annual Springfield Lake Council Chili Challenge Supports Local Boy Scouts
WHAT: The Council of Lake Springfield Clubs is down to the final chili challenge of the season. Winners from West, South and East Regions will bring their chili to competition representing the clubs in their region to see who has the best chili and presentation.
WHEN: 12 p.m. doors open, 2-4 p.m. competition, Sunday, March 8, 2020
WHERE: Sangamo Surf Club, 405 E. Lake Shore Drive, Springfield
DETAILS: While they wait for boating season to begin later this month, nine club members, who scored in the top three at their regional chili competition, will bring their best chili to compete for the title of Chili Champion and bragging rights for their club. Members who are not competing and the public have the opportunity to sample delicious chili and vote. Admission is $3 which grants attendees samples and three tickets to vote. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each.
Competitors have the opportunity to win cash prizes in Judges’ Choice, Popular Vote or Best Theme.
Half of the proceeds from the event will benefit the Abraham Lincoln Council’s Camp Illinek, which also sits on Lake Springfield. Camp Illinek is the home to the Council’s Sea Scouts, Cub Scout and Webelos camps as well as the Illinek Lodge Order of the Arrow Scout honor society.
The Council of Lake Springfield Clubs represents 14 member clubs situated around Lake Springfield that create an atmosphere of community and entertainment on the lake.
